Although this interpretation may seem correct in view of the practices but it doesn't convey the full meaning of term. "Pranayama" is derived from sanskrit word Prana+Ayam . Now what is Prana? The Vedas are also called Apaurushya means non-human in origin.  Shruti(рд╢्рд░ुрддि) means that which has been heard or communicated from the beginning.  Smriti(рд╕्рдоृрддि) means which is remembered or which is based upon memory. In other words, which is produced out of human intellect.
